If you’re planning a family getaway and want to enjoy the great outdoors without the faff of pitching a tent, then Lake District glamping is the perfect solution. You still get all the fun of camping; waking up surrounded by nature, toasting marshmallows under the stars, and spending your days exploring the fells and lakes; but with a few extra home comforts thrown in.
The Lake District is home to some fantastic glamping accommodation, from cosy camping pods to luxury family hideaways. However, as we discovered during our research, many glamping sites are designed with couples in mind rather than families.
To save you the time trawling through endless accommodation listings, we’ve rounded up some of the best family-friendly glamping sites in the Lake District. These are places where children are genuinely welcome, with plenty of outdoor space to play, family-sized accommodation, and easy access to some of the National Park’s best adventures. Whether you’re looking for a simple camping pod or a more luxurious glamping experience, you’ll find something here for your next family escape.

1. Park Cliffe, Windermere
Best for: Families wanting easy Windermere access with on-site facilities and play space

Set just a 10 minute drive south of Bowness-on-Windermere, the Family Vista Pods at Park Cliffe combine beautiful fell views with excellent family-friendly facilities. Their spacious layout and peaceful location make them a popular choice for families looking to explore the heart of the Lake District, while still having plenty of space for children to play and unwind.
Each Family Vista Pod sleeps up to five people and features a full-size double bed, a set of bunk beds and a pull-out trundle bed. Inside, you’ll find heating, lighting, USB charging points, a hanging rail, plenty of hooks and a carpeted floor. Outside, there’s a private decking area where you can relax and take in the surrounding countryside. Guests should note that bedding and towels are not provided, and the pods are pet-free and non-smoking.
The pods are located just across a quiet road from the main campsite and are only a short walk from all the park facilities. Families can make use of the modern shower block, while younger children will enjoy the on-site play area. There’s also a restaurant with board games available to borrow, making it easy to keep everyone entertained on a rainy Lake District afternoon.
2. Eskdale Campsite

Set within eight acres of meadow grassland surrounded by woodland, crags and waterfalls, Eskdale Campsite is a fantastic choice for families looking to explore the quieter western side of the Lake District. Run by the National Trust, the campsite sits at the foot of Hardknott Pass and is within easy walking distance of the village’s family-friendly pubs.
Families can choose between furnished pods, sleeping up to four people with a double bed and bunk beds, or basic pods with space for up to four guests to bring their own sleeping equipment. The campsite has plenty of open space for children to play and a relaxed atmosphere that feels wonderfully removed from the busier parts of the National Park.
There’s lots to do straight from the campsite. Follow the Eskdale Trail to stepping stones, rock pools and the impressive Stanley Ghyll Force waterfall, or hop aboard the Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway from nearby Dalegarth station for a scenic steam train journey to the coast.
3. Black Beck Farm, Bouth

Located in the small village of Bouth, near Ulverston, Black Beck Farm is a great base for exploring the southern Lake District. From here, it’s easy to reach Windermere, Coniston and Kendal, while the Lake District coastline is also within easy driving distance. The family-run farm offers a range of camping options, including two bespoke glamping lodges designed with families in mind.
Red Deer Lodge and Roe Deer Lodge each sleep up to five guests, with a double bed in one sleeping area and three fold-out single beds suitable for younger children in the other. Inside, you’ll find electric lighting, plug sockets and USB charging points, along with a unique indoor barbecue for family meals whatever the weather. Outside, each lodge has a picnic table overlooking the surrounding countryside.
The lodges are pet friendly, with space to park alongside your accommodation, and shower and toilet facilities are a short walk away. There’s also a pub serving food just five minutes from the site, and if you’re lucky, you may even spot a hot air balloon launch from the farm.
4. Great Langdale, Ambleside
Best for: Active families who want doorstep access to serious mountain scenery and walks

Set in the heart of the dramatic Langdale Valley, Great Langdale Campsite is one of the most scenic places to stay in the Lake District. Run by the National Trust, the campsite sits beneath the iconic Langdale Pikes and provides direct access to some of the National Park’s best walks, waterfalls, cycling routes and mountain tarns.
Families can stay in one of the campsite’s simple wooden camping pods, which sleep up to four people. Each pod includes heating, lighting and plug sockets, along with two single bench beds with mattresses and two additional floor mats. The pods offer a comfortable base for exploring the surrounding fells while keeping the camping experience close to nature.
The campsite has excellent family facilities, including a play area, hot showers, a shop, laundry and washing-up facilities. There are family-friendly walks straight from the campsite, including routes to Blea Tarn and Stickle Tarn, while a couple of pubs serving food are within a 10-minute walk.
5. Wasdale Campsite, National Trust
Best for: Adventure-loving families wanting a taste for wild landscapes

For families who love outdoor adventures, Wasdale Campsite is hard to beat. Run by the National Trust, this peaceful campsite sits close to Wastwater, England’s deepest lake, and is surrounded by some of the Lake District’s most spectacular scenery. From here, you have easy access to family walks, mountain biking trails, paddleboarding on the lake and, for ambitious families with older children, routes up Scafell Pike.
While traditional camping is the main focus here, families can opt for a little extra comfort with the campsite’s furnished pods, basic pods or traditional tipi. The tipi is a particularly memorable option, sleeping up to four people with a double bed, two single mattresses and a woodburner inside. It also includes lighting, plug sockets, a table and chairs, plus an outdoor kitchen area. Families should note that the sleeping space may feel a little cosy with older children.
Facilities include hot showers, laundry and drying rooms, a campsite shop and EV charging.
6. Harbour Lights, Haverigg
Best for: Beach-loving families who still want easy access to western Lake District adventures

Located on the fringe of the Lake District National Park, Harbour Lights offers families the best of both worlds; a beach just a couple of minutes’ walk away (Haverigg Beach) and views towards the Lake District fells. This coastal location makes a refreshing alternative to a traditional Lake District stay, while still providing easy access to the western lakes and mountains.
The site offers a range of family-friendly glamping accommodation, including Glamping Pods, Luxury S-Pods and larger Luxury Mega Pods, all sleeping up to four guests. For bigger families, the Beachcomber wooden cabin sleeps up to six people. The variety of accommodation options makes Harbour Lights a great choice whether you’re travelling with toddlers, older children or extended family.
The flat, easy-to-navigate campsite is particularly well suited to families, with plenty of space for children to play and the beach practically on the doorstep. The location is also ideal for exploring Cumbria’s often-overlooked west coast, while family favourites such as the Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway are only around 30 minutes away. For families wanting to combine beach days with Lake District adventures, Harbour Lights is an excellent option.
7. Low Wray, National Trust
Best for: Lakeside family holidays with water sports, castles and forest adventures

Set on the western shores of Windermere, Low Wray is one of the Lake District’s most sought-after family campsites. Another campsite run by the National Trust, it enjoys a stunning lakeside location, with pitches and accommodation spread across woodland, meadow and lakeside settings.
Families can choose from a range of glamping options, from simple camping pods with floor mattresses through to more comfortable furnished cabins. The accessible Furnished Cabin in the Lake Field is particularly well equipped, sleeping up to four guests with electrically adjustable single beds, bunk beds, heating, lighting, USB charging points, a kitchen with hot and cold water, and a covered deck overlooking the lake.
There’s plenty to keep families busy during their stay. Wray Castle is within walking distance, while the on-site Active Base offers kayak, canoe, paddleboard and bike hire. Facilities include a campsite shop, hot showers, laundry, and regular visits from Nomad Pizzas. With direct access to Windermere and family favourites such as Grizedale Forest nearby, Low Wray is an excellent choice for an active family glamping holiday in the Lake District.
8. Troutbeck Camping Pods, Windermere
Best for: Comfortable, all-inclusive pods on a working farm near Windermere and Ambleside

Set on a working farm in the beautiful Troutbeck Valley, these family-friendly camping pods offer a peaceful rural escape between Windermere and Ambleside. Located beside a small beck and tucked away behind the main farm buildings, the pods enjoy a quiet setting while remaining close to many of the Lake District’s most popular attractions and walking routes.
Each pod sleeps up to four people with a double bed and bunk beds, making them well suited to families with younger children. Inside, you’ll find an ensuite shower room, underfloor heating, a microwave, cooker and cooking utensils, along with a TV, WiFi, complimentary toiletries, bed linen and towels. Situated at High Gregg Hall Farm in Underbarrow, Lakeland Glamping is well placed for exploring both the southern Lakes and nearby Kendal. Windermere is just a 15-minute drive away, while the popular Black Labrador pub is only a short five-minute walk, making it easy to enjoy a relaxed meal out without getting in the car.
The site has a mix of pods, but the two family-focused options are The Hen House and The Pig Pod, both designed with comfort and convenience in mind. Each pod sleeps a family of four, with a double bed and fitted bunk beds for children. Inside, you’ll also find underfloor heating, mains electricity and a well-equipped kitchen with a Belfast sink, induction hob, microwave, Nespresso coffee machine, kettle, toaster and fridge with freezer compartment.
Both pods also feature a modern bathroom with a shower, toilet, basin, heated towel rail and vanity storage, along with a sitting area, fold-away dining space for four and a wall-mounted TV.
10. Skelwith Fold Family Hideaway Pods, Ambleside

Set just outside Ambleside, Skelwith Fold’s Family Hideaway Pods offer one of the more premium glamping experiences in the Lake District, with space, comfort and thoughtful extras designed specifically for families. The pods sleep up to six guests and combine open-plan living with clever sleeping arrangements, including a double bed, double sofa bed and a mezzanine level with twin beds that children will love.

The location is ideal for exploring lakeshore walks, family hikes and the quieter eastern fells.
Five of the six luxury lodges sleep up to four people, with a king-size bed and sofa bed in an open-plan studio-style layout. The luxury pods sleep up to two adults and two children, and include a private shower room, self-catering facilities, TV, sofa and balcony, making them a comfortable base for a family stay. Some HEX Pods are also pet friendly.
The spacious site provides plenty of room for children to run around, while the elevated setting means spectacular views are never far away. Whether you’re planning family walks, boat trips on Derwentwater or days out in Keswick, Castlerigg Hall is an excellent base for exploring the northern Lake District.
